Myocarditis

Overview

The human heart is made up of three layers – outer, middle and inner. They are named as pericardium, myocardium and endocardium respectively. When there is inflammation of the middle layer or myocardium of heart, the condition is called as Myocarditis. This inflammation mainly happens due to some infection. This condition is usually self limiting and causes minimal damage but can cause serious illness in some conditions.

Myocarditis can be classified into following types
  • Infectious
  • Autoimmune mediated
  • Post Viral Autoimmune mediated
  • Drug associated


Signs & Symptoms
