Heart Failure

Overview

Heart Failure does not literally mean that the heart has stopped working! It rather means that the heart cannot pump blood in or out as effectively as it should otherwise be.
The cells of the body depend on the oxygenated blood supplied by the heart to carry out its functions. When the heart fails to pump the blood properly, cells starve for oxygen thereby causing troubles in day to day activities.

Types

  • Left-Sided Heart Failure

This is the commonest type of heart failure. In this the left ventricle of the heart does not pump effectively causing the lungs to overload with oxygenated blood.

  • Right-Sided Heart Failure

This is usually triggered by Left-Sided Heart Failure.

  • Biventricular Failure

In this type, both sides of the heart are affected.
